PHOENIX custard cup, 3 layers of glass, vaseline, cranberry, and opalescent
Description : Contrary to some, this is not a punch cup, it is a custard cup. Yup, elegantly made to serve pudding! While most glass that is vaseline and cranberry and there is also opalescent glass in the picture, the glassmaker uses ingredients in the vaseline to make the vaseline opalescent. However, in this case, there are three layers of glass, and the inner layer is opalescent and does not glow under a blacklight. The outer layer is vaseline, with cranberry inbetween the two layers. The photo shows a close up of the top rim, to show the 3 layers. Depending where I measure on the rim, the total of the three layers varies between 2 and 3 millimeters! These can be found for under a $100 if you are not worried about a rim chip or two. No chips? price goes up considerably.

Height 2 1/4", top rim diameter (minus the handle) 2 3/4". Made by Phoenix Glass, mid 1880s.
