JOHN WALSH WALSH

Opaline Brocade by John Walsh Walsh

Opaline Brocade by John Walsh Walsh
Description : Northwood introduced OPALINE BROCADE in December 1898 as his new product line. This product has been generically called SPANISH LACE for years. However, the British glassmaker company, JOHN WALSH WALSH, advertised this pattern design in THE POTTERY GAZETTE a full year before, in Nov. 1897! Yes, Northwood was not beyond copying a good thing!

John Walsh Walsh made lots of shapes and all of the glass rings like a bell when it is flicked. There is no comparision between Northwood's version and the John Walsh Walsh versions when pieces are compared side by side. The original is noticably thinner.

Here is a collage picture showing it in different lighting (inset is UV). This piece is 4.5" tall, 5" top diameter, and a featherweight 6.1 oz. (electronic diet scale). The most eye-catching feature of this piece is the twist in the stem.
